Fellow Nigerians sold us into slavery in Libya – Returnees

In the midst of the uproar over revelations that Libyan nationals are buying and selling migrants in the country as slaves in Libya, new revelations indicate that Nigerians based in the country also abducted and sell their fellow Nigerians - men and women.
This emerged as more Nigerians are repatriated by the International Organisation for Migration with the backing of the European Union in an ongoing exercise that has seen 1,295 retrieved from Libya in November alone.

Since the beginning of 2017, IOM-facilitated repatriation has brought back 5,578 Nigerian migrants, who were trapped in and outside prisons across Libya.

On Thursday night, 150 migrants from mostly Edo and Delta states arrived the country aboard a Buraq Airplane at the cargo terminal of the Murtala International Airport, Lagos. It was two days after 239 migrants had also been brought into the country.

15 killed, 53 injured in suicide attacks on Borno market

Fifteen persons were on Saturday killed and 53 others injured in a twin suicide bomb attacks on Biu market.

Biu is the biggest town in the South of Borno State, and this is one of the worst attack on the town by suspected members of Boko Haram.

According to a statement by the spokesman of the Borno Police Command, Victor Isuku, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, two female suicide attackers strapped with explosive devices launched the attack on the main market in the town, the third largest in Borno State, birthplace of Boko Haram.

The statement read, “Today 2/2/2017 at about 1140hrs, two female suicide bombers infiltrated and gained entry into Biu town in Biu local government area.

“One of the bombers detonated IED strapped on her body within Biu Main market, while the other one detonated outside the market square.

“So far, a total of 13 persons excluding the two suicide bombers, have been confirmed killed in the two explosions. While 53 others sustained various degrees of injuries.…

You are so ignorant, Afenifere, Ohaneze tell Gov Shettima

The Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has described Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, as ignorant of the contents of restructuring, which informed his comments against the call for a review of the nation’s economic and political structure.

The secretary of the group, Bashorun Arogbofa, told PREMIUM TIMES on Friday in a telephone interview that the Boko Haram and almajiri phenomena would not have existed if the country was properly structured to tackle all the problems now facing it.

Mr. Shettima had on Thursday downplayed the agitations for the restructuring of the country, saying it was a “madness” that could be stopped by good governance.

Mr. Shettima, who spoke at the launching of the book “On a Platter of Gold,” by former Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Bolaji Abdullahi, in Abuja, said if jobs were created and the economy made better, the calls for restructure would stop.

Reacting to Nigeria’s former President Atiku Abubakar’s announcement of joining the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today, Nigerian Senator, Ben Bruce disclosed that Atiku is already Nigeria’s next President.
